Chemical Hygiene Specialist

Job Overview
Bell Laboratories Inc seeks a highly skilled Chemical Hygiene Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the facility's Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP) in accordance with OSHA, ACGIH, and industry best practices.
The estimated salary for this position is $90,000 - $110,000 per year.
Responsibilities- Develop and Implement the Chemical Hygiene Plan: Work with R&D, Engineering, and Production groups to identify processes that should be substituted, establish engineering controls, develop processes to prevent exposure, and lastly, establish appropriate PPE.
- Emergency Response Planning: Develop and implement emergency response plans for chemical spills, chemical fires, or exposures, and ensure staff are trained on responding to such events.
- Industrial Hygiene Testing: Oversee management and execution of Industrial Hygiene testing for hazardous processes.
- Safety Guidance: Provide safety guidance to the Chemical Manufacturing team when new chemicals and chemical processes are brought online.
- Incident Management: Respond to and manage chemical-related emergencies, including conducting investigations and reporting incidents.
- Material Safety Data Sheets: Provide material safety data sheets (SDSs) for appropriate processes while ensuring these documents are kept up to date and stored in a retrievable repository.
- Risk Assessments: Conduct regular risk assessments of toxic chemical use, storage areas, and laboratory processes to identify potential hazards.
- Chemical Safety Audits: Perform chemical safety audits to ensure compliance with safety protocols and standards.
- Corrective Actions: Recommend and implement corrective actions for any chemical safety deficiencies found during inspections.
- PPE Training: Determine and document appropriate PPE that employees are required to use and ensure the training department is up to date on the correct procedures for use.
- After-Hours Support: Serve as after-hours, on-call resource in the event of a chemical spill or chemical-related emergency.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum 5 years' experience in chemical safety, laboratory safety, or environmental health & safety in a manufacturing environment. CGIH membership or certification is a plus.
- Knowledge and Skills: Thorough understanding of OSHA, EPA, ACGIH regulations and doctrines. Experience developing and managing a Chemical Hygiene Plan (CHP). Strong knowledge of chemical properties, hazards, and safe handling practices. Excellent communication skill with the ability to present and explain health and safety topics to all levels of the organization.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to travel throughout the facility as required to conduct safety inspections.
