Job Summary

The Behavioral Health Technician position at Impower is available as a Full-Time or Part-Time opportunity. As a member of our treatment team, you will provide vital front-line client care and coordination services for adolescent clients in our Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Program.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide front-line supervision of clients in the residential program to monitor safety and well-being on campus and during scheduled community outings.
  • Monitor and record client progress, observations, and problems utilizing the daily shift log; report concerns to the Residential Manager and/or clinical team as needed.
  • Responsible for being aware of where all clients are and what they are doing at all times; complete documented rounds every 30 minutes noting client location and affect using an observation system.
  • Utilize trauma-informed practices to build rapport and improve client engagement, including the use of terminology and communication style appropriate for each individual client, and incorporating sensitivity to cultural, religious, racial, disability, and gender issues into daily practices and interactions.
  • When assigned 1:1 with a client, required to have eyes on the client at all times during the assigned period.
  • Maintain positive, professional relationships with staff, clients, and visitors.
  • Facilitate residential daily schedule, including participating in and providing supports for activities such as school, chores, deep cleaning, meal service, laundry service, groups, activities, and events.
  • Support clients to meet their life skills goals by teaching skills, providing supports, and building on individual strengths and capabilities.
  • Mentor clients in the development of friendships and other relationships while teaching appropriate boundaries.
  • Facilitate and supervise medication observation for each client utilizing proper medication observation guidelines as requested.
  • Provide transportation to residents for community outings, court, meetings, or non-emergency medical appointments in a safe and legal manner.
  • Follow all program medical and emergency policies and procedures.
  • Recognize crisis situations and provide appropriate interventions and de-escalation techniques; contact necessary supports and comply with regulations for reporting.
  • Complete searches at intake and records and maintains inventory logs of client personal belongings.
  • Provide and accept co-worker support, participating in supportive supervision.
  • Welcome and support new clients at intake by providing orientation and review of dorm rules and program schedule.
  • Complete and submit incident reports and other reporting in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain strict client confidentiality and ethical practice.
  • Arrive/stay at work as needed and comply with emergency policies, including natural disasters and disease and infection control.
  • Attend staff meetings as requested; learn and remain current with appropriate documentation systems, policy changes, and trainings.
  • Complete required training education/certification in a timely manner.
  • Complete all other tasks and duties as assigned or as needed to help drive Impower's vision, fulfill our mission, and abide by our organization's values.
Requirements
  • Minimum of one (1) year professional experience in mental health/behavioral healthcare field preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Must be 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance, and successful motor vehicle driving record background check.
  • Successful background screenings through State and Local Law Enforcement and FBI; and pre-employment drug screen.
  • Negative result from a multi-panel drug screen.
