Job Overview

Geotechnical Consultants Inc. (GCI) is a well-established civil engineering firm with over four decades of experience in geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, and construction services. We are currently seeking a dedicated Structural Steel Inspector to join our team in the Columbus, OH area. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting on-site evaluations of steel construction projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough on-site evaluations of steel construction activities.
  • Maintain consistent communication with project managers and construction teams to monitor the quality of steel erection.
  • Document and report any discrepancies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Exercise authority to reject non-compliant work and mediate conflicts within the scope of responsibility.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must possess a current AWS-CWI or ICC-S1 & S2 certification.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding inspection or quality control is preferred.
  • Proficient in interpreting project drawings and specifications, with at least Level I certification in MT, PT, or UT.
  • Experience in the construction or fabrication sectors, along with an Associate Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Construction Engineering, is preferred.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
  • Must pass a drug test and background check, with results acceptable for access to government sites and chemical facilities.
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record that complies with company and DOT policies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Able to safely navigate construction sites.
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 hours daily and stand or walk for up to 8 hours.
  • Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
