Steel Construction Quality Inspector

Geotechnical Consultants Inc. (GCI) is a well-established civil engineering firm with over four decades of experience in geotechnical engineering, environmental consulting, and construction services. We are currently seeking a dedicated Structural Steel Inspector to join our team in the Columbus, OH area. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting on-site evaluations of steel construction projects, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough on-site evaluations of steel construction activities.
- Maintain consistent communication with project managers and construction teams to monitor the quality of steel erection.
- Document and report any discrepancies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Exercise authority to reject non-compliant work and mediate conflicts within the scope of responsibility.
Required Qualifications:
- Must possess a current AWS-CWI or ICC-S1 & S2 certification.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding inspection or quality control is preferred.
- Proficient in interpreting project drawings and specifications, with at least Level I certification in MT, PT, or UT.
- Experience in the construction or fabrication sectors, along with an Associate Degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Construction Engineering, is preferred.
- Legally authorized to work in the United States without restrictions.
- Must pass a drug test and background check, with results acceptable for access to government sites and chemical facilities.
- Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record that complies with company and DOT policies.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Able to safely navigate construction sites.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 hours daily and stand or walk for up to 8 hours.
- Desire to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
