SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Principal and the Lead Nurse, the School Nurse plays a crucial role in ensuring the health and well-being of students.
Key Responsibilities
Essential Duties:
Manage the operations of the school health clinic.Exhibit consistent and punctual attendance.Provide first aid to students and staff as necessary, assessing situations to determine if emergency services are required.Evaluate students' health conditions to decide on their ability to remain in school, communicating with parents as needed.Oversee, coordinate, and document the administration of scheduled medications according to school policies.Collaborate with parents, local healthcare providers, and school staff to address individual medical needs of students.Deliver care for students with chronic health issues during school hours, ensuring proper implementation of care plans.Report health concerns to school administration and advocate for health awareness throughout the school community.Conduct training sessions for staff on health-related topics and procedures.Assist with maintaining immunization records and other mandated health documentation.Perform vision and hearing screenings (training will be provided).Maintain inventory of clinic supplies and submit orders as required.Conduct regular checks of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) at the school.Collaborate closely with the Health Services Coordinator, providing necessary health-related information regarding students and staff.Uphold confidentiality standards.Foster effective communication with administration, teachers, and staff, demonstrating strong written and verbal skills. Proficiency in computer technology is essential.Engage with professional organizations relevant to the nursing field.Promote wellness initiatives and disease prevention strategies.Serve as a medical resource for students, staff, and parents.Adhere to the guidelines and policies of Gainesville City Schools and comply with the Georgia Nurse Practice Act. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications Required
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN)Basic Literacy Skills
Physical Requirements
Routine physical activities typical of an office environment. Ability to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, and repetitive fine motor activities are required. Vision, hearing, and verbal communication are essential functions of this role.
