Position Overview:
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) plays a crucial role in delivering care across various settings within Tennessee Oncology.
The APP is responsible for providing high-quality care to specific patient populations in areas such as cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, active treatment, and palliative care, collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
The responsibilities of the APP encompass the assessment, diagnosis, and management of cancer and related disorders, utilizing evidence-based literature to foster positive health outcomes for patients with a history or potential diagnosis of cancer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Clinical Duties:
Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical and psychosocial health, documenting detailed health histories and performing thorough physical examinations. Recognize symptoms typical in cancer patients and evaluate the impact of comorbidities on treatment responses. - Diagnostic Interpretation:
Order and analyze laboratory and diagnostic tests, prioritizing findings to identify urgent patient issues. Identify candidates for clinical trials based on clinical evaluations. - Patient Management:
Develop and communicate care plans to patients and their families, writing prescriptions and administering therapeutic measures as per established protocols. Provide management for cancer-related symptoms and side effects of treatments. - Education and Training:
Educate patients and families about proposed treatment plans using various culturally appropriate methods. Participate in the development of educational resources for both patients and healthcare professionals. - Collaboration:
Work effectively with healthcare teams to ensure continuity and quality of care, representing the APP role in departmental meetings.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant in Tennessee, along with a Master’s degree in nursing or certification as a Physician Assistant. National certification as an APP is required, along with a minimum of one year of oncology nursing experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Candidates must be capable of lifting up to 50 pounds and maintaining an upright position for extended periods. Effective communication and manual dexterity are essential.
