Position Overview

The Director of Family Law Services will oversee and direct the Family Law Program, which currently comprises one staff attorney, one paralegal, and one legal assistant. This program is dedicated to assisting individuals affected by intimate partner violence by offering comprehensive representation, limited scope assistance, and legal counsel in civil matters. Additionally, the Director will collaborate with community legal advocates to facilitate legal clinics, educational initiatives, and volunteer training.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and manage the Family Law Program team, providing guidance and coaching to ensure the delivery of high-quality services that address the needs of survivors while maintaining respect and dignity.
  • Offer legal advice, limited scope representation, and direct advocacy for survivors of intimate partner violence in family law matters.
  • Conduct legal research, draft necessary legal documents, and prepare pleadings and memoranda to ensure effective representation.
  • Represent clients in court during hearings, status conferences, and trials.
  • Evaluate client cases to determine suitability for program acceptance and/or referral to volunteer attorneys, providing necessary support and oversight.
  • Mentor and train interns within the Safe & Stable Families program.
  • Collaborate closely with community legal advocates to organize Know Your Rights clinics and outreach events aimed at educating survivors about their civil legal options.
  • Facilitate training sessions on intimate partner violence, Guardian ad Litem responsibilities, and other relevant topics.
  • Engage in court and county task forces, committees, and bar activities to foster relationships with other service providers and enhance the reach of the Safe & Stable Families program.
  • Participate in bar events, professional development trainings, and speaking opportunities.

Qualifications

Applicants must be a member of the Georgia Bar in good standing with no disciplinary history and possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience representing survivors of intimate partner violence in civil legal matters. Courtroom experience is essential. Candidates must have or be willing to obtain notary certification.

Skills and Knowledge Requirements

  • Proven experience advocating for survivors of intimate partner violence (Required)
  • Litigation experience (Required)
  • Experience in managing staff and/or attorneys
  • Ability to work with clients from diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey and support clients' needs effectively
  • Respectful and responsive to cultural beliefs and practices within client communities
  • Strong collaborative abilities
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and commitment to excellence
  • Organized with the ability to prioritize client needs
  • Demonstrated proficiency in legal research and writing
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite
  • Familiarity with Salesforce is advantageous.
