Position Overview

JOB SUMMARY: The Radiologic Technologist plays a crucial role within the X-ray Department, undertaking a variety of responsibilities as required. This professional is tasked with executing radiologic procedures, utilizing independent judgment and creativity to apply prescribed ionizing radiation for diagnostic purposes. The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for producing high-quality radiographs as requested, selecting appropriate technical factors tailored to each patient's needs, and operating equipment in accordance with established policies, procedures, and safety standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform X-ray examinations as directed by physicians.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization within the X-ray department.
  • Provide reassurance and clear explanations of procedures to patients.
  • Assist radiologists and clinic physicians during examinations.
  • Administer radiographic medications and barium mixtures as necessary.
  • Support fluoroscopic examinations and complete related office tasks.
  • Adhere closely to physician instructions, prepare radiographic equipment, and accurately position patients to capture required diagnostic images.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout the X-ray process while taking necessary precautions against radiation exposure.
  • Utilize the RIS/PACS System for data entry, retrieval, and maintenance.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including potential exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Participate in OSHA training during initial orientation and complete annual OSHA competency assessments.

COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS: This role involves direct interaction with patients and physicians, necessitating a strong ability to collaborate with clinic physicians and radiologists on both routine and complex procedures. The Radiologic Technologist must demonstrate empathy towards patients and establish effective working relationships with colleagues and medical staff.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must have graduated from high school or obtained a GED, followed by completion of a two-year accredited program in radiologic technology, holding an ARRT certification. A valid New York State radiography license and a minimum of four years of experience in an inpatient setting, or two years in an ambulatory healthcare environment, are also required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The position requires the ability to sit, stand, bend, and reach, with the potential to lift up to 20 pounds. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating standard office equipment, including computers, fax machines, calculators, and telephones. Normal hearing and vision are essential for performing job functions effectively.
