Job Overview

Position Title: Chief Engineer

Objective: To ensure the safe and efficient operation of all mechanical systems aboard the vessel, adhering to industry regulations and company standards.

Reporting Structure: This position reports directly to the Captain or Pilot on duty.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess relevant experience, supported by references that validate their work performance, conduct, and technical knowledge. These references will be verified by the appropriate management personnel.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain the safety of the towing vessel and ensure compliance with the safety management system.
  2. Conduct regular inspections of the engine room and surrounding areas during watch periods.
  3. Ensure adherence to all applicable regulations and report any unsafe conditions to the watch personnel.
  4. Oversee the maintenance of vessel machinery, including hot oil heaters and pump systems.
  5. Supervise engine room staff, if applicable, and manage the transfer of fuel, water, and lubricants in accordance with company procedures.
  6. Maintain an organized inventory of machinery parts and supplies, ensuring accessibility for relief personnel.
  7. Address any machinery repairs within capability and communicate with management for external assistance when necessary.
  8. Document daily operations in the BoatSys log and maintain knowledge of firefighting equipment.
  9. Assist in training crew members on emergency procedures and firefighting protocols.
  10. Ensure the engine room is maintained in a clean and orderly manner, following safety and environmental regulations.
  11. Participate in training sessions as required and mentor engineering trainees.
