Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct pulmonary function tests to assess and interpret patient evaluations and test results
  • Determine respiratory therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians and by prescription
  • Administer inhalants, operate mechanical ventilators, and provide therapeutic gas administration
  • Monitor physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes
  • Evaluate the effects of respiratory therapy treatment plans and recommend adjustments and modifications
  • Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare workers
  • Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records
