Job Title: Optical Signal Integrity Engineer

Job Summary:

Hirose Electric USA, Inc. is seeking an experienced Optical Signal Integrity Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for testing high-speed optical connectors to validate their signal integrity, working closely with sales and other engineers, and occasionally visiting customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform lab measurements and experiments to validate simulation results.
  • Write and review optical signal integrity evaluation and qualification reports for both internal and customer use.
  • Provide optical signal integrity design recommendations using analytical and simulation tools.
  • Develop simulation and measurement methodologies for better efficiency and accuracy.
  • Implement new technologies on the high-speed optical connector design for the next generation.
  • Prepare and execute a plan for continuous improvement of SI team's capability.
  • Generate and review optical SI engineering procedure to accumulate know-how and to avoid any mistakes.
  • Interface with industry groups and standards committees, as necessary.
  • Work closely with design engineers to make optical signal integrity design recommendations using analytical and simulation tools.
  • Work with sales team and occasionally visit customers to address any optical SI questions.
  • Employee must complete their tasks per ISO requirements, when applicable.

Requirements:

  • BSEE required, MSEE or PhD preferred.
  • Good understanding of electromagnetics.
  • 2+ years of relevant optical signal integrity work experience.
  • Proficient with optical simulation tools, such as Lumerical (EME), Synopsis (Rsoft, OptSim), HFSS, HSPICE, and ADS.
  • Proficient in high-speed optical cable assembly design.
  • Proficient with Optical SI measurement tools, such as OSA, PNA, TDR oscilloscope, and calibration methods.
  • Strong ability to drive problem-solving strategies for complex problems.
  • Experience of engagement in standard technical committees, such as COBO, IEEE 802.3, a plus.
  • Experience in design of active cables a plus.
  • Proficient computer skills, Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Good communication and presentation skills.
  • Positive attitude, proactive mentality, responsive, and strong work ethic.
  • Fluency in Japanese language and culture a plus, but not required.

Physical Conditions:

Good eye-hand coordination, listening-hearing ability, verbal communication skills required. Able to walk, stand, sit, and drive.
