Job Summary:
Oceans Healthcare is seeking a skilled Mental Health Technician to support our nursing staff in maintaining a therapeutic environment for our patients. As a Mental Health Technician, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our patients, while also providing exceptional care and support.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to professional standards, policies, and procedures to ensure a safe and professional standard for patient care.
- Effectively apply supportive behavior when assisting in the control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior, and employ de-escalation and therapeutic interventions as needed.
- Inventory patient belongings accurately and secure contraband as needed, and complete unit safety checks.
- Comply with standard/universal precautions and infection control policies, and attend required in-services to stay informed.
- Implement patient care activities under the direction and supervision of licensed nursing personnel, including vital signs, weights, ADL, intake and output documentation, nutritional monitoring, and communication of findings to the nurse.
- Assist patients with laundry, meals, bathroom functions, and maintenance of belongings, and assist at-risk and/or physically challenged patients with mobility needs as needed.
- Individualize all patient care activities to the age-specific, disability, and cultural sensitivity needs of the patient.
- Communicate and document patient observations and data effectively in the patient record, and document patient departure from the unit, significant occurrences, observed behavior, vital signs, nutrition intake, and patient observation findings as requested by the registered nurse.
- Communicate outcome of assigned tasks to nursing staff in a timely manner, and communicate follow-up on patient care responsibilities, incomplete assignments, ongoing activities, and current patient needs to relevant staff to ensure continuity of care.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks effectively.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
