Job Description

We are seeking a licensed behavioral health professional to join our Military and Family Life Counselor (MFLC) Child and Youth Behavioral team. As a Military Youth and Family Life Specialist, you will provide non-medical support to eligible faculty, staff, parents, children, and youth at Naval Base Kitsap near Bremerton, WA.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Observing, participating, and engaging in activities with youth and/or teens; providing coaching, guidance, and support to staff and parents; and modeling behavior management techniques for staff and parents.
  • Offering presentations to address social skills development and social emotional learning that is crucial for youth and teenage development.
  • Promoting creativity and positivity through approved materials.
  • Building rapport with parents and families by attending installation and community events.
  • Helping with transition adjustments, such as a new school and a new home.
  • Participating in regular in-service training or other contract activities as assigned.
  • Communicating information regarding trends and issues at assigned installation to Team Leads.

This is a 9-month school calendar position that will reflect the school calendar that you would support at Ridgetop Middle School.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you must have:

  • A master's degree or higher in the Behavioral Health Professions (MS/MSW/MA/PhD).
  • A valid independent license in the mental health field from any US state or territory (Licensed Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, Licensed Counselor, Psychologist).
  • US citizenship.
  • The ability to pass a basic background check for employment, a Child National Agency Check, and Inquiries (NACI/CNACI) clearance, commonly called a Public Trust clearance.

Please note that duties are performed in multiple indoor locations (approximately 60%) and outdoor locations (approximately 40%). The indoor locations are located within school settings controlled by the state and/or Department of Defense Education Activity. The outdoor locations frequently involve traversing over uneven grassy, gravel, and/or dirt areas, ascending/descending stairs, and exposure to the weather.
