Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Public Health Registered Nurse to join our team at the Georgia Department of Public Health. As a Public Health Registered Nurse, you will play a critical role in promoting health and preventing disease in our communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Professional Nursing Care: Under broad supervision, you will provide professional nursing care in accordance with established nurse protocols, policies, and procedures.
  • Conduct Comprehensive Physical Assessments: You will conduct comprehensive physical assessments for all ages and clinical programs.
  • Function as an Expanded Role Nurse: You will function as an expanded role nurse providing patient care consistent with patient's level of need.
  • Develop Care Plans: You will develop care plans based on nursing assessment and established protocols.
  • Focus on Prevention and Health Promotion: You will focus on the prevention of illness, injury, or disability, and the promotion of health and maintenance of the health of the population.
  • Serve as Patient Advocate: You will serve as a patient advocate and refer patients to community partners or private physicians, when indicated.
  • Utilize Electronic Medical Record: You will utilize the Electronic Medical Record to accurately document patient care and enter billing information for reimbursement.
  • Administer and Dispense Medications: You will administer and dispense medications and vaccines based on nursing assessment and according to established nurse protocol.
  • Provide Education and Training: You will provide education to clients, families, and community partners.
  • Respond to Public Health Emergencies: You will prepare to respond to public health emergencies and respond as directed.
  • Assist with Reporting and Data Analysis: You will assist with completing monthly/quarterly reports.
Minimum Qualifications
  • PH Registered Nurse Level 1: Associate's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university AND completion of a PHN course within one year of hire AND current Georgia Registered Professional Nurse license AND CPR certification.
  • PH Registered Nurse Level 2: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university AND current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse AND CPR certification.
  • PH Registered Nurse Level 3: Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university AND One year of nursing experience AND current Georgia license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse AND CPR certification.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Public Health Nursing Experience: Experience working in public health nursing is preferred.
  • Emergency Preparedness Planning: Experience with emergency preparedness planning for the health department is preferred.
