Overview:
The Oncology Nursing Supervisor will hold operational responsibility for a designated nursing unit during assigned shifts. This role includes providing direct nursing care approximately eighty percent of the time.

The Nursing Supervisor is tasked with planning, organizing, and directing nursing services in alignment with Mercyhealth's Mission, Vision, Values, and Philosophy.

Maintaining clinical proficiency in their area of oversight is essential, as is the expectation to deliver direct patient care based on the needs of the unit.

The Nursing Supervisor ensures that the overall patient experience is exceptional, focusing on both the Quality of Care and patient perceptions as defined by system performance metrics.

This position will also involve participating in the recruitment, selection, orientation, training, coaching, and mentoring of nursing staff. Additionally, the Supervisor will contribute to performance evaluations and assist management with necessary corrective actions.

Responsibilities:

Engages in and supports initiatives for staff selection, evaluation, orientation of new hires, ongoing education and development, competency assessments, and appropriate scheduling based on patient needs.

Collaborates with the Manager/Clinical Leader to ensure that staff knowledge, skills, and behaviors align with unit objectives.

Education and Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • BSN or agreement for enrollment in an accredited BSN Completion Program upon hire. An ADN may be acceptable for specific locations.
  • May require specific years of relevant experience as per departmental guidelines. OCN Certification in specialty is preferred. A minimum of 3 to 4 years of Oncology nursing experience is required.
Certification and Licensure

Licensed as an RN in the relevant state.

Current CPR or BLS certification required within 90 days (additional certifications may be required based on unit needs: ACLS, PALS, NALS).

Skills and Abilities

Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, along with conflict resolution capabilities.

Adept listener with the ability to interpret patient concerns.

Computer Skills: Intermediate computer proficiency is required. Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic arithmetic operations in various units of measure, using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
