At Farmer Mac, we are seeking a highly skilled Corporate Counsel to join our team. As a key member of our legal department, you will provide critical legal and strategic advice to support our mission-related business activities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal counsel on complex secured finance transactions, including mortgage and asset finance, real estate finance, project finance, and syndicated transactions.
  • Oversee the preparation, review, and negotiation of legal documentation for commercial transactions, including loan participation agreements, loan syndication agreements, and asset-backed securities offerings.
  • Assist in preparing and revising board and management policies, procedures, and internal documentation related to our mission activities.
  • Monitor regulatory developments affecting Farmer Mac and inform business units to implement necessary changes.
  • Manage outside counsel on complex transactional matters and work closely with the Business Development, Finance, and Operations/Servicing teams to provide day-to-day legal support.
Requirements
  • J.D. degree and a minimum of five years of relevant legal practice experience.
  • Active bar membership in good standing, with the District of Columbia bar preferred.
  • Strong analytical capabilities, sound judgment, and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team.
