Job Summary

The Mobile STEM Lab Manager will oversee the operation of the STEM Lab and the Precision Agriculture Lab, developing programs and services that cater to students, faculty, staff, limited-resource farmers, and the community.

This role involves developing and implementing programs to educate K-12 students in STEM and small farmers in precision agriculture, leading staff, interns, and volunteers, and managing their training on the use of the STEM Lab software, computers, and manufacturing equipment.

The incumbent will serve as a champion for the Labs, promoting opportunities through various venues and maintaining partnerships with external organizations.

Additionally, the Manager will establish protocols for safe and effective use of the labs, monitor and maintain optimal safety conditions, and be responsible for equipment maintenance, supply management, and scheduling and supervision of the lab and its staff and interns.

Qualifications

Requires a technical degree (ME, CS, IT) and/or similar job experience. A Bachelor's degree in engineering, computer science, electronic engineering technology, or other STEM-related field with significant technical experience and three years of recent professional experience providing support services in a directly related unit or discipline is preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Experience with image editing, CAD/CAM applications, and design software, as well as experience with fabrication equipment such as a vinyl printer/cutter, laser etcher/cutter, CNC mill, CNC plasma cutter, and others. Experience with operating drones and robots and knowledge of their applications.

Experience working in or using manufacturing/industrial and rapid prototyping technology and equipment, supervisory and teaching experience, excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, and proficiency in common desktop applications (web browsing, Office, image editing, etc.).

Ability to work in a team-based environment, demonstrated flexibility, initiative, and collegiality, strong general management, problem-solving, organizational, and decision-making skills, as well as technical knowledge, strong attention to detail, and highly developed customer relations attitude and competencies.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching and/or demonstration of science and technology, especially to underserved communities. The ideal candidate will have a background that is just as diverse and will be eager to embrace new concepts and technologies when appropriate.
