Histology Technician

Mass General Brigham is seeking a skilled Histology Technician to join our team in Somerville, Massachusetts.

Under the supervision of the Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation and staining of frozen section specimens. This includes accessioning specimens for billing, maintaining the laboratory, and ensuring the accuracy of records and billing.

• Perform frozen sections with precision and attention to detail.
• Train other histotechnologists as required to cover the laboratory.
• Maintain the frozen section laboratory and equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.
• Prepare and stain tissue samples, including gross sectioning, fixing, processing, embedding, cutting, and mounting.
• Produce and maintain accurate records and bills for all work performed.
• Re-order stock items as needed and prepare stains and stock solutions.
• Set up, maintain, operate, and clean all laboratory equipment and instruments.
• Properly dispose of chemicals and maintain quality control data for the laboratory.
• Perform specialized tests, including special stains, immunoperoxidase, cytospin, centrifuge techniques, and preparation of smears.

• HT ASCP or HLT ASCP Registration preferred.
• 1 year of college, with courses in biology and chemistry preferred.
• Two years of experience in frozen section preparation and two years of experience in a histology laboratory.
• Experience cutting paraffin-embedded tissue and special staining techniques, including immunoperoxidase.
