Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Patient Service Representative to join our team at Advocate Health. As a Patient Service Representative, you will be responsible for managing front desk responsibilities, including greeting patients, checking them in, and collecting patient responsibility. You will also be responsible for reviewing and/or obtaining demographic and insurance information, and informing patients of the organization's expectation of payment at time of service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage front desk responsibilities, including greeting patients, checking them in, and collecting patient responsibility.
  • Review and/or obtain demographic and insurance information.
  • Inform patients of the organization's expectation of payment at time of service.
  • Verify insurance benefits and obtain/calculates patient responsibility.
  • Communicate with patients regarding payment expectations.
  • Identify patients in need of financial assistance and refer them to the Financial Advocate.
  • Collaborate with the Financial Advocate to coordinate patient's financial resources and responsibilities.
  • Monitor patient flow to ensure patients are cared for in the most efficient and courteous manner.
  • Perform visit closure, including checking out patients and providing them with appropriate documents.
  • Schedule patient visits using guidelines established within the scheduling system.
  • Assist with new caregiver onboarding.
  • Work assigned EPIC work queues, following the department's work flow process.
Requirements
  • Typically requires 1 year of experience in customer service or clerical/office experience.
  • Knowledge and ability to articulate explanations of Medicare/HIPAA/EMTALA rules and regulations.
  • Mathematical aptitude, effective communication skills, and critical thinking skills.
  • Understanding of basic human anatomy, medical terminology, and procedures for application in the patient referral/pre-certification/authorization processes.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively to customers or employees of the organization, maintaining a pleasant, professional demeanor.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information according to internal policies.
Working Conditions

This is a part-time position, working 40 hours every two weeks, Monday through Friday, 7:00am - 3:30pm, with rotating every other weekend and holiday rotation.

No licenses or certifications are required for this position. A high school graduate is preferred.
