GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Falcon State Park is a stunning natural environment that offers a diverse range of outdoor recreational activities. The park is renowned for its exceptional largemouth bass fishing and breathtaking night skies, providing visitors with unforgettable experiences.
Under the guidance of the Deputy Regional Director, this role involves advanced park and historic site management responsibilities. The individual will oversee the conservation, safeguarding, administration, operation, and upkeep of Falcon State Park. Key responsibilities include:
- Cultural and natural resource stewardship
- Financial oversight, including budget formulation, preparation, and monitoring
- Revenue management and human resources administration
- Public safety initiatives
- Maintenance and repair of facilities, grounds, and equipment
- Customer service, public relations, marketing, and promotional activities
- Interpretation and educational programs
- Coordination of special events and community outreach
- Volunteer development and partnership coordination
The role also involves identifying, developing, and managing program budgets, along with undertaking additional projects as assigned by the Region and headquarters. The position operates under general supervision, allowing for a moderate degree of initiative and independent judgment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: A minimum of three years in one of the following areas: natural/cultural resource management, interpretation or education, general maintenance, public safety, or promotions/public relations/marketing. Additionally, two years of supervisory or team leadership experience is required.
Licensure: A valid State driver's license is mandatory, with retention of the position contingent upon maintaining this license.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in supervisory roles within park operations and management, budget development and management, personnel management, community outreach, and resource management is highly desirable. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is also preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The candidate should possess knowledge of all aspects of park administration and operations, personnel management, cultural and natural resource management, and revenue accountability. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is essential, along with effective verbal and written communication skills. The ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others, manage public relations, and make sound decisions independently is crucial.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires working in a public park with both overnight camping and day-use visitors. The work schedule includes 40 hours per week, with varied hours outside the standard 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM timeframe. The individual must be prepared to respond to emergencies and on-call situations, perform outdoor work in varying weather conditions, and engage in manual labor, including lifting materials up to 50 lbs.
On-site State housing may be available with a monthly deduction, and the role requires operating a State vehicle and occasional travel.
