Position Overview
As a Safety Systems Engineer within the Department of Defense, your responsibilities will encompass a variety of critical tasks aimed at ensuring the safety and reliability of defense systems.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Act as a subject matter expert, providing leadership in system safety, hazard identification, and risk mitigation strategies.
2. Develop and implement safety programs to align with Department of Defense (DoD) and Agency safety protocols, ensuring compliance and operational excellence.
3. Identify potential hazards that could affect end users, ensuring that these risks are communicated effectively to senior leadership.
4. Establish new software safety requirements and evaluate software development processes for adherence to safety standards.
5. Lead and facilitate System Safety Working Group (SSWG) meetings to monitor software development and testing progress.
6. Apply advanced safety engineering principles to support the development of software requirements, architecture, design, and testing activities.
7. Review risk assessments and recommend sign-offs prior to the acceptance of residual safety risks, ensuring alignment with agency policies.
8. Process safety waivers as necessary, maintaining rigorous safety standards.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited institution.
- Specialized experience equivalent to the NH-03/GS-13 level in the Federal service, including:
- Technical expertise in safety engineering and combat/weapon system design.
- Experience in integrating complex weapon systems and software safety requirements.
- Professional registration or licensure as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or Professional Engineer (PE) is preferred.

Additional Requirements:
- U.S. citizenship is mandatory.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Candidates must be eligible for a Non-Critical Sensitive (Secret) Security Clearance.
- Continuous Learning Points (CLPs) and DAWIA certification are required within specified timeframes.
