Job Description

Colorado Outward Bound School is a non-profit organization that offers adventure-based education programs. We are seeking an Instructional or Logistical Transfers from NWOBS For Southwest Program to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the Outward Bound mission and education framework while teaching course components. They will educate students about character development, leadership, and service.

The role requires the ability to build a sustainable, equitable, and inclusive work environment where diversity is celebrated and valued across the COBS community. The successful candidate will support the program and other staff in all aspects of course safety, identifying, assessing, and managing environmental and human risk.

The ideal candidate will have a personal commitment to and working knowledge of the work of diversity, equity, and inclusion. They will have medical certification, including Wilderness First Aid and CPR, and mental health first aid certification. A minimum of 400 river miles in Class III or above whitewater as the primary person in charge of the vessel is required.

The role offers paid trainings, post-training wage, onsite housing option, meals provided while working with students, and paid training in outdoor education facilitation, backcountry risk management, and technical skills.

Eligibility for up to $1,000 in professional development funds after the first season, outdoor professional gear discounts, and access to a network of outdoor professionals are also offered.

The successful candidate will be able to work both independently and cooperatively as a positive team member. They will have a strong personal motivation, initiative, follow-through, and commitment. The ideal candidate will be able to give and receive both positive and constructive feedback.

They will be able to manage a range of student behaviors in line with our organizational best practices and report potentially unsafe conditions. The successful candidate will be flexible, adaptable, and open to change.

They will have a high level of professionalism with strong leadership attributes both in work and community environments. The ideal candidate will be able to work in both independent and cooperative team environments and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

They will have a strong and effective communicator, both written and oral. The successful candidate will be able to participate in all site and course activities and maintain ample energy, strength, and focus to aid students and staff, with or without reasonable accommodations.

They will be able to work in outdoor weather conditions, occasionally during poor weather. The ideal candidate will be able to lift, crawl, bend, carry, and pull. They will be able to participate in vigorous to moderate physical activity, including but not limited to rafting, canoeing, backpacking, canyoneering, and/or rock climbing.
