We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Security Monitor to join our team at the Schenectady City School District. As a Security Monitor, you will play a critical role in maintaining a safe and secure learning environment for our students and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol and Monitor School Premises: Conduct regular patrols of school halls, stairwells, restrooms, courtyards, entrances, parking lots, and other areas to ensure the safety and security of students and staff.
- Enforce School Rules and Regulations: Question and advise visitors on school premises who are not students or staff, and direct them to school offices or ask them to leave as necessary.
- Report Incidents and Concerns: Periodically report problems, incidents, and conditions affecting security to the principal, either orally or in writing.
- Develop Rapport with Students: Interact and develop rapport with students to act as a sounding board for their school or personal problems, and assist or refer them to someone who can help.
- Collaborate with Staff and Parents: Advise parents, teachers, counselors, or principal about potential or actual student problems concerning class-cutting, truancy, disciplinary or other school or personal problems.
- Supervise Bus Loading and Field Trips: Supervise the loading of buses and follow buses on routes or on field trips to ensure no discipline problems develop.
- Work in Detention Class or Time-Out Room: Work in a detention class or time-out room to calm down students and confer with them about the importance of remaining in school and maintaining proper school behavior.
- Verify Student Attendance: Check student attendance by verifying daily records against teacher attendance records, record absences or class cuts, note late students, verify absence notes, and contact parents as necessary.
- Participate in District Security Plans: Participate in the development and implementation of district security plans.
- Liaise with Local and State Police Agencies: Act as liaison with local and state police agencies as needed.
- Act as Liaison between Home and School: Act as a liaison between home and school, answering requests from parents, probation officers, and counselors regarding attendance.
- Education: Possession of an Associate Degree awarded by a college accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
- Experience: Three (3) years of experience in the security field, youth service work, recreation, education, or any other activity involving service to or activities with youth.
