Overview
Securing Travel, Protecting People - At the Transportation Security Administration, you will operate in a critical environment to protect the American way of life. Across various locations, you will secure airports, seaports, railroads, highways, and public transit systems, thereby safeguarding the nation's transportation infrastructure and ensuring the freedom of movement for individuals and commerce.
Key Duties
If selected for this role, you will function as a Lead Security Operations Supervisor (LSOS) for Security Operations (SO) within the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Your primary responsibility will be to mitigate both actual and potential threats to civil aviation and other transportation modes. You will oversee and guide your team, which may include Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) and Lead Transportation Security Officers (LTSOs), in executing all security functions related to the screening of individuals, their belongings, and cargo through established procedures, techniques, and technologies.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting and supervising the pre-board security screening of individuals and their carry-on and checked baggage/cargo.
- Overseeing daily operations at screening checkpoints and baggage screening areas, including equipment management, personnel oversight, and scheduling.
- Contributing to the formulation of new policies and procedures, and recommending modifications based on operational observations.
- Engaging in strategic planning initiatives, workforce planning, and preparing reports for TSA and management.
- Enhancing critical thinking skills necessary for identifying and addressing security threats through effective evaluation and situational analysis.
- Preparing various communications, including briefings, logs, reports, and relevant documentation.
- Generating incident reports for Law Enforcement Officers (LEOs) and management.
- Acting as a member of the National Screening Force.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This role includes first-line supervisory duties such as assigning tasks, setting priorities, evaluating employee performance, approving leave, coaching staff, and resolving routine issues that affect the organizational unit's objectives.
Qualifications
Conditions of Employment
- U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National status is required.
- Completion of a favorable Background Investigation (BI) is mandatory.
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance is essential.
- Successful completion of pre-employment drug screening and random drug/alcohol testing is required.
- Selective Service registration is necessary.
Physical Requirements
Must meet and maintain medical requirements for screening work, including the ability to manipulate and lift baggage and other objects, maintain physical agility, and meet specific vision and hearing thresholds.
Qualifications
To qualify for the SV-1802-G Pay Band, candidates must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience related to the duties of a Transportation Security Officer or Lead Transportation Security Officer at the E band level or above (GS-8). Additionally, six months of experience in a leadership role is required, showcasing the ability to manage workloads, train employees, and resolve workplace issues.
