About San Luis Coastal Unified School District
San Luis Coastal Unified School District is a public school district serving the communities of Avila, Edna Valley, Los Osos, Morro Bay, and San Luis Obispo. Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to provide support to students with disabilities who receive special education services. As a Special Education Assistant I and II, you will perform paraprofessional duties, including modality-based academic instruction, physical education instruction, social skills instruction, behavioral modification and management, preparation of instructional materials, and related duties as assigned.
You will be assigned to various grade levels, preschool to adult, and settings, including resource programs, general education classes, special day classes, classrooms for emotionally disturbed students, and one-to-one support assistance to students. Your support may be provided in one or more of the following settings:
- Resource program (RSP)
- Special day classes, mild/moderate (MM)
- Special day classes, moderate/severe (MS)
- Classes for emotionally disturbed (ED)
- Special Circumstances Instructional Assistance (SCIA)
- General Education Inclusion
Requirements / Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must meet the following requirements:
- Copy of Transcript (Attach to be waived from written exam. Otherwise, submit a document stating you will take the test)
- Letter(s) of Recommendation (At least one within the past two years; signed; preferred on letterhead)
- Resume (Professional Resume or CV)
Additional Information

- Approval for Advanced Hiring: Successful candidates may be eligible for advanced hiring, which allows for a higher starting salary range.
- Must be willing to work in person and adapt to a variety of schedules and settings.
- Experience working with students with disabilities or in a classroom setting is preferred, but not required.
- The district offers robust professional development and training opportunities for all new employees.
Testing and Evaluation
Applicants must test or submit a copy of their transcript. Those who possess an AA or AS Degree, or two full years of college coursework, are not required to take the District offered written examination. If you wish to be waived from the written examination, you must submit copies of your transcripts with your application.
Background and TB Clearances will be required to obtain prior to starting work once a conditional offer of employment has been made.
