Position Overview:
The AV Technology Support Specialist at RAND will focus on managing, monitoring, and assisting with audiovisual technologies, particularly in Microsoft Teams Rooms environments, secure video conferencing, and Zoom meeting facilitation for various organizational events.
This role requires close collaboration with the East Coast AV lead and reporting to the AV technology manager, ensuring the successful execution of complex live events and virtual meetings, with an emphasis on exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist users in a research setting with Microsoft Teams Rooms and standard AV meeting support, which may involve various other unified communication platforms and presentation tools.
- Work in conjunction with local and remote AV technicians and other departments to deliver high-quality in-person and virtual conferences and events.
- Troubleshoot AV equipment issues to guarantee seamless integration with Microsoft Teams Rooms and meet user expectations.
- Set up, monitor, and support virtual calls, including managing breakout rooms and webinars as needed.
- Provide support for a diverse range of AV equipment and services, including secure video conferencing systems, projection displays, advanced audio systems, and lighting controls.
- Oversee detailed AV system installations, conduct thorough testing, and ensure compliance with quality control standards.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of AV equipment and service logs, ensuring proper disposal and recycling of outdated gear.
- Review and annotate signal flow diagrams, AV construction drawings, and event setup schematics.
- Efficiently deliver, set up, and dismantle event equipment and furniture.
- Stay updated on the latest AV technologies, assess their applicability, and recommend necessary upgrades.
- Manage schedules for meetings and events to optimize AV resource utilization.
Qualifications:
- AVIXA CTS certification is required; candidates without certification must obtain it within one year of employment.
- Extensive experience with streaming technologies, particularly through platforms like Teams and Zoom.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to individuals with varying levels of understanding.
- Excellent coaching and instructional skills.
- Proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting AV hardware from leading manufacturers.
- Knowledge of networking principles as they relate to AV.
- Advanced understanding of video production techniques and image composition.
- Proficient in Office 365 applications and Visio for AV-related tasks.
- Familiarity with both MS Windows and Mac OS environments, as well as mobile operating systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
- Strong customer service focus, dedicated to providing outstanding support.
- Physical capability to lift and transport equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Flexibility to work non-standard hours as required by events.
- Willingness to travel to other locations as necessary.
- Ability to stand for extended periods during event setup and support.
Experience:
- A minimum of three years of relevant industry experience is required; six years is preferred.
- At least two years of hands-on experience managing and supporting virtual meetings, including troubleshooting AV and networking issues.
Education:
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- A higher education degree in communications, technology, video production, or a related field is preferred.
- Additional AV training and certifications from recognized organizations are highly advantageous.
Security Clearance:
- Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance, which requires U.S. Citizenship.
Location:
- Washington, D.C.
Salary Range: $55,900 - $83,200
RAND considers various factors when determining an offer, including the specific role, responsibilities, work experience, education, skills, and internal equity. This position is eligible for overtime. Successful candidates will be offered employment in a specific title based on their qualifications.
