Utilize hand-welding or flame-cutting tools to join metal parts or to repair defects in fabricated metal products.
Key Responsibilities:
- Adhere to safety protocols and employ safe working practices.
- Weld components in various positions including flat, vertical, and overhead.
- Ignite welding torches or initiate power supplies, establishing arcs by contacting electrodes with the metals being fused.
- Secure, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind, and/or bolt components to achieve necessary configurations for welding.
- Identify and report any equipment malfunctions or material defects to supervisors.
- Operate manual or semi-automatic welding machinery to join metal sections using techniques such as gas tungsten arc, gas metal arc, flux-cored arc, plasma arc, shielded metal arc, resistance welding, and submerged arc welding.
- Oversee the fitting, burning, and welding processes to prevent overheating, warping, or distortion of materials.
- Inspect workpieces for flaws and measure them with tools to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Recognize, set up, and operate hand and power tools commonly used in welding.
- Layout, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies prior to welding using measuring tools.
- Perform additional related tasks as necessary.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent preferred, but not mandatory.
- At least one (1) year of relevant experience or vocational training preferred, but not required.
- Must remain in the position for a minimum of two (2) years based on prior experience before advancing to a higher level.
- Understanding of customer service principles and processes.
- Ability to handle confidential information sensitively.
- Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
Mental and Physical Requirements:
- Proficient in reading, speaking, and writing English.
- Possess strong physical and mental health to manage a demanding workload.
- Able to perform under stressful conditions when necessary.
- Capable of climbing stairs.
- Skilled in using hands and arms for handling, installing, positioning, and moving materials.
- Must wear appropriate protective equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, and hard hats when required.
- Position may require consistent overtime based on workload demands.
- May involve working six (6) days a week when necessary, with time off scheduled according to workload and staff availability.
- Demonstrates strong work ethics, integrity, and a commitment to excellence in all tasks.
- Ability to observe, receive, and gather information from various sources.
- Capable of identifying information by categorizing and recognizing differences or similarities.
- Adept at analyzing information and evaluating results to determine optimal solutions.
- Skilled in resolving conflicts and minor issues.
- Dependable and reliable in fulfilling responsibilities.
