SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision of a physician and the department head, the Cardiac Imaging Specialist conducts intricate diagnostic ultrasound examinations of the cardiovascular system to aid in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of heart-related diseases, adhering to industry standards, Federal, State, and Joint Commission, ICAEL guidelines.

The Cardiac Imaging Specialist plays a vital role in executing Care Standards and physician directives to ensure optimal utilization of services and enhanced patient outcomes.

In collaboration with leadership, this position is accountable for advocating the delivery of patient care through precise implementation of care standards, physician directives, and advanced imaging techniques.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Conducts a variety of cardiac ultrasound assessments: Adult Echocardiography, Pediatric Echocardiography, Stress Echo imaging studies, Pharmacologic Stress Echo imaging studies, and Contrast Echo studies.
  • Assists a Cardiologist with Transesophageal examinations.
  • Serves as a role model, professional resource, and mentor for new department personnel and Cardiac Sonography students.
  • Integrates the imaging requirements of the patient with other healthcare providers to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge on technological advancements in cardiovascular imaging and demonstrates proficiency in the relevant clinical area.
  • Actively engages and collaborates in the accreditation application (ICAEL) and re-application process.
  • Reviews images for identification, technique, and completeness in accordance with the American Society of Echocardiography, Inter-Societal Commission on Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories, and laboratory policies and procedures.
  • Participates in educational initiatives, sharing technical and professional expertise with students, allied health staff, and physicians.
  • Performs ultrasonic examinations on the heart, major vessels, and other cardiovascular structures across various facilities.
  • May conduct testing studies in multiple settings, including departmental areas, patient bedsides, emergency units, and surgical environments.
  • Utilizes appropriate techniques and procedures for ultrasound contrast media administration when necessary.
  • Acquires the skills required to perform new ultrasonic examinations and modalities as they are introduced to the department's offerings.
  • Welcomes patients, physicians, colleagues, and the public in a manner consistent with the Values and Standards of Conduct of the organization.
  • Operates a range of advanced ultrasonic imaging equipment and diagnostic reading and reporting systems.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the department supervisor or Cardiologists.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed.
Typically equivalent to:
  • Education: Associate Degree in Cardiovascular Technology (Preferred) or Certificate of Completion from a Cardiovascular Ultrasound Program.
Experience:
  • 0-3 years of cardiac ultrasound testing experience required.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

Must be eligible to take the exam in Adult Echocardiography and pass within one year of hire, from the American Registry for Diagnostic Sonography- Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (ARDMS/RDCS) or Cardiovascular Credentialing International-Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CCI/RCS).

American Heart Association BCLS certification for healthcare providers is required.
