Job Summary:


As a Senior Landscape Technician - Operations/Field Maintenance with the City of Arlington, you will be responsible for operating specialized equipment for the maintenance of park sites and golf course grounds. This includes performing landscape management tasks, applying prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pest control and healthy plants/turf, and maintaining accurate application records.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Operate specialized equipment for the maintenance of park sites and golf course grounds, including but not limited to, mowing equipment, chemical sprayers, backhoes, and various implements used in the care of large turf areas.
2. Perform maintenance-type duties to golf courses and park sites, including construction and repair of buildings, shelters, playgrounds, concrete/asphalt, retaining walls, landscape improvements, drainage systems, and more.
3. Perform landscape management tasks such as mowing and trimming of turf grass areas, installation and care of plant materials, including flowers, trees, and ground cover.
4. Apply prescribed amounts of fertilizers and chemicals for pest control and healthy plants/turf, and maintain accurate application records.
Requirements:
1. A high school education and one to two years of experience in lawn care, maintenance, construction, or horticulture.
2. Possession of a valid Texas Operator's License, Class C.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Knowledge of principles, procedures, tools, and equipment used in carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical work.
2. Skill in determining irrigation problems, maintaining irrigation systems, repairing, and installing irrigation systems.
3. Ability to read chemical labels and mixing directions of insecticides, herbicides, and other pesticides, and to assist in the implementation of complete maintenance programs for turf grasses used on athletic fields, golf courses, and building landscapes.
4. Ability to lead volunteers and seasonal employees in the completion of assigned projects.
5. Ability to develop cost analysis for golf course improvement projects and oversee same.
6. Ability to receive and communicate detailed information through oral and written instructions.
7. Ability to lift or exert forces equivalent to lifting up to 80 pounds.
8. Ability to work outdoors and withstand extremes of weather and temperature.
9. Ability to work a flexible work schedule.
10. Ability to perform a variety of physical skills, including but not limited to, seeing, stooping, twisting body, carrying and lifting, cleaning, writing, and pushing.
11. Ability to operate a variety of equipment, including but not limited to, lawn mowers, hedge trimmers, triplex mower, power rake, lightweight fairway mower, and motorized vehicle.
