Head of Music and Media Metadata Librarian

The University of California, San Diego Library seeks a highly skilled and experienced Metadata Librarian to lead the Music and Media Metadata Unit in the Metadata Services Program. This position will be responsible for providing metadata expertise and oversight for musical scores, audio, and visual materials from a wide variety of disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide metadata expertise and oversight for musical scores, audio, and visual materials * Develop and implement metadata strategies that support the discovery of the Library's music and media collections * Supervise and train metadata staff and students * Collaborate with data providers and other stakeholders to ensure accurate and consistent metadata * Stay up-to-date with emerging trends and technologies in metadata and bibliographic control * Participate in the creation and development of Metadata Services Program priorities, policies, and goals * Work collaboratively with public services and collections staff to prioritize and create appropriate access to library materials
Requirements
* MLS/MLIS or equivalent advanced degree * Demonstrated experience cataloging original, copy, and batch processing of physical and electronic audio, moving image, and notated music * Ability to read notated music and knowledge of the special features of notated music, media, and electronic resources * Demonstrated experience successfully managing staff and providing collaborative or inclusive leadership with peers and direct reports * Demonstrated strong intercultural competency and overall ability to communicate and collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders * Demonstrated effectiveness in synthesizing a variety of perspectives in order to identify viable approaches and build consensus among stakeholders * Demonstrated awareness of national and international trends in bibliographic and authority control * Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills * Demonstrated effectiveness in prioritizing multiple concurrent projects in order to meet deadlines in a timely manner * Demonstrated knowledge of current metadata standards, trends, and issues in academic libraries * Demonstrated experience advocating for the diverse metadata needs of stakeholders and long-term strategic goals * Evidence of contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education and libraries * Demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for learning new skills in support of program and library goals
Preferred Qualifications
* Undergraduate or advanced degree in music * Demonstrated experience cataloging/creating metadata for digital collection repositories * Demonstrated experience working in an academic research library * Demonstrated experience with (meta)data wrangling using scripting languages and/or tools such as OpenRefine, MarcEdit, spreadsheets, etc.
