Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Admissions Specialist to join our team at Johnson Regional Medical Center. As a key member of our admissions team, you will be responsible for ensuring a smooth and efficient patient registration process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collect and enter accurate demographic and financial data for patient registrations
  • Tear down charts, make required copies, and distribute
  • Verify Medicaid coverage and assign PCP, if necessary
  • Accurately complete procedures for discharges and transfers
  • Check insurance cards for requirements regarding physician referrals and precertification
  • Pre-notification of inpatient stays with insurance
  • Assignment of ICD-10 CM and CPT codes for initial authorization of Inpatient and Observation stays
  • Pre-register patients for scheduled admissions and outpatient services, verifying that prior authorization and physician referrals are in place, if required by their insurance company
  • Review and make corrections to patient charts
  • Answer multi-line department telephone, transferring calls to the appropriate location and relaying verbal and written messages accurately and promptly
  • Operate the public address system
  • Give instructions to visitors and patients
  • Use the computer to post walk-in payments and print receipts
  • Reconcile cash drawer with receipts and forward payments to cashier
  • Know how to operate and maintain departmental equipment
  • Log patient valuables in and out of the hospital safe
  • Deal with the public utilizing guest relation skills
  • Participate in educational programs and inservice meetings
  • Follow hospital policy on confidentiality
  • Rotate holidays and fill in on weekends, when needed
Requirements
  • High school or equivalent; Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Two or three years experience in patient registration desired; one year experience in ICD-10 CM and CPT coding experience; insurance notification experience; excellent organization skills
  • Skills: Insurance pre-notifications, audit registrations, answer multi-line telephone, interview patients
  • Machine skills: Telephone, computer, fax, copier, calculator
  • Physical demands: Light physical effort, mostly sedentary work; occasional standing, walking, and lifting
  • Working conditions: Subject to many interruptions; occasional pressure due to multiple inquiries; may be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
