Job Overview

Position Summary

The Health and Safety Manager is accountable for the execution and oversight of tailored Health and Safety initiatives across designated sites. These initiatives will align with the overarching guidelines set forth by Sparrow Company's Health and Safety Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Promote a culture focused on injury prevention as the cornerstone of workplace safety.
  • Assess and implement effective, site-specific Health and Safety protocols aimed at achieving a zero-injury and zero-incident environment.
  • Provide expert guidance and support on Health and Safety training programs to meet regulatory standards and address specific operational safety challenges.
  • Collaborate with regulatory bodies such as DOT, FMCSA, MSHA, and OSHA to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents and conduct root cause analyses to implement corrective measures and prevent future occurrences.
  • Advise management on systems to support injured employees during their transitional return to work.
  • Engage in audits of Division Health & Safety Management Systems and contribute to follow-up actions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 3-5 years of experience in health and safety management or a related field.
  • Possession of safety certifications (CSP, CIH, CMSP, CDS, etc.) is advantageous.
  • Experience working with regulatory agencies such as DOT, OSHA, and MSHA.

  • Meticulous attention to detail with strong organizational capabilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting while also being a self-motivated individual.
  • Proven leadership and decision-making skills demonstrated through performance evaluations.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of effectively engaging with diverse groups including employees, supervisors, and regulatory authorities.

Work Environment

  • Frequent exposure to extreme weather conditions and outdoor environments.
  • Mandatory use of protective equipment while on-site.

Physical Demands

  • Job requires significant walking, sitting, lifting, pushing, pulling, and climbing.
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently.
  • While the role involves primarily sitting, it also requires brief periods of walking or standing.
  • Regular communication is necessary to ensure safety around heavy equipment.
  • Capability to perform all essential job functions, including operating controls.
