Post-Surgical Unit Registered Nurse (RN) Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Post-Surgical Unit Registered Nurse (RN) to join our team at United Surgical Partners. As a key member of our medical team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients recovering from surgery.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform direct patient care within the scope of the RN practice act and according to hospital policies and procedures.
  • Assess patient's psychosocial, educational, and physical needs, and develop a plan of care to address these needs in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Respond quickly and appropriately to emergency situations.
  • Develop and prioritize a plan of care to attain measurable goals.
  • Identify educational needs, implement, and evaluate learning, and document patient/family education.
  • Manage acute and chronic pain on all patients, especially post-procedure or surgical patients, to alleviate suffering and improve healing.
  • Deliver medication based on continual assessment, safety, and evaluation of patient response.
  • Respond to patients presenting to the hospital with healthcare needs and perform MSE, following policies and procedures for follow-up.
  • Follow all documentation policies.
  • Utilize the Cerner system for registering patients, entering orders, discharging patients, and accessing drug monograms.
Requirements:
  • Current Texas Nursing License.
  • Current CPR certification and ACLS and PALS certification within 90 days from hire date.
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Prefer at least 1-2 years of experience as an RN in hospital MedSurg/Telemetry, Critical Care, Emergency, or ICU Departments.
  • Ability to recognize, evaluate, solve problems, and correct errors.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, hospital staff, physicians, vendors, and the public.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrates accountability, professionalism, openness, receptiveness to change, creativity, and innovation.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change quickly, strong knowledge base relative to surgery procedures and management of the surgical patient.
  • Understands principles of aseptic technique and their implementation.
  • Ability to care for patients from infancy to geriatrics.
  • Excellent teaching skills.
  • Basic knowledge of Performance Improvement ideology.
