Position Summary

Salary: $44,333 to $61,480 based on ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule E2 03 and experience

Ensure the safety and security of faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Maintain a secure environment through crime prevention and control, criminal investigations, traffic and parking oversight, disaster management, and the maintenance of public order.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Conduct foot and vehicle patrols across the campus.
  2. Respond to and investigate all incidents occurring on campus, including motor vehicle accidents and violations.
  3. Carry out complex investigations for misdemeanors and felonies, including interviewing involved parties, preparing photo lineups, gathering evidence, and compiling case files.
  4. Provide security assistance to the college community, including escorting individuals to their vehicles during late hours.
  5. Enforce applicable laws, making arrests and issuing citations as necessary.
  6. Secure campus facilities.
  7. Issue citations for parking infractions.
  8. Prepare detailed incident reports.
  9. Monitor student activities to ensure compliance with college policies.
  10. Manage access to offices and buildings as requested.
  11. Facilitate mail transport to the post office when requested.
  12. Handle bank deposits for the college's business office.
  13. Send electronic emergency notifications to the campus community.
  14. Provide security for dignitaries and executive personnel.
  15. Identify and report hazardous conditions such as potholes and light outages.
  16. Complete twelve hours of continuing education annually as mandated by APOST and other training as designated by the Chief of Police.
  17. Support security operations across the campus as needed.
  18. Be available to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
  19. Issue parking permits and student identification cards.
  20. Manage lost and found property.
  21. Appear in court and provide testimony as required.
  22. Participate in emergency training, drills, and exercises.
  23. Monitor security surveillance systems.
  24. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
Additional Responsibilities
  1. Respond to fire alarms and coordinate with the fire department as necessary.
  2. Administer emergency first aid/CPR when required.
  3. Assist motorists with locked vehicles and flat tires.
  4. Document and secure lost-and-found items.
  5. Deliver messages to individuals who cannot be reached by phone or radio.
  6. Transport mail and cash receipts to designated locations.
  7. Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers.
  8. Perform light surveys upon request.
Qualifications

Education: High School or GED Diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
Experience: One year of full-time equivalent work experience required.
Licenses: Current Alabama driver's license required. APOST certification required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  1. Understanding of city, state, and federal laws.
  2. Ability to effectively interact with the public in emergency situations.
  3. Knowledge of first aid/CPR.
  4. Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  6. Ability to meet weapons qualification requirements (APOST).
  7. Flexibility to adapt to a rotating work schedule.
  8. Ability to obtain NCIC certification.
