Position Summary
Salary: $44,333 to $61,480 based on ACCS Board of Trustees Salary Schedule E2 03 and experience
Ensure the safety and security of faculty, staff, students, and visitors. Maintain a secure environment through crime prevention and control, criminal investigations, traffic and parking oversight, disaster management, and the maintenance of public order.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols across the campus.
- Respond to and investigate all incidents occurring on campus, including motor vehicle accidents and violations.
- Carry out complex investigations for misdemeanors and felonies, including interviewing involved parties, preparing photo lineups, gathering evidence, and compiling case files.
- Provide security assistance to the college community, including escorting individuals to their vehicles during late hours.
- Enforce applicable laws, making arrests and issuing citations as necessary.
- Secure campus facilities.
- Issue citations for parking infractions.
- Prepare detailed incident reports.
- Monitor student activities to ensure compliance with college policies.
- Manage access to offices and buildings as requested.
- Facilitate mail transport to the post office when requested.
- Handle bank deposits for the college's business office.
- Send electronic emergency notifications to the campus community.
- Provide security for dignitaries and executive personnel.
- Identify and report hazardous conditions such as potholes and light outages.
- Complete twelve hours of continuing education annually as mandated by APOST and other training as designated by the Chief of Police.
- Support security operations across the campus as needed.
- Be available to work various shifts, including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
- Issue parking permits and student identification cards.
- Manage lost and found property.
- Appear in court and provide testimony as required.
- Participate in emergency training, drills, and exercises.
- Monitor security surveillance systems.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chief of Police.
- Respond to fire alarms and coordinate with the fire department as necessary.
- Administer emergency first aid/CPR when required.
- Assist motorists with locked vehicles and flat tires.
- Document and secure lost-and-found items.
- Deliver messages to individuals who cannot be reached by phone or radio.
- Transport mail and cash receipts to designated locations.
- Conduct monthly inspections of fire extinguishers.
- Perform light surveys upon request.
Education: High School or GED Diploma required; Associate degree preferred.
Experience: One year of full-time equivalent work experience required.
Licenses: Current Alabama driver's license required. APOST certification required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Understanding of city, state, and federal laws.
- Ability to effectively interact with the public in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of first aid/CPR.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Capability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to meet weapons qualification requirements (APOST).
- Flexibility to adapt to a rotating work schedule.
- Ability to obtain NCIC certification.
