Job Summary and Qualifications
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Cardiovascular Surgical Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring safe and effective services for cardiovascular patients. This position requires the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while working collaboratively with a team. Responsibilities include prioritizing patient flow and ensuring optimal use of time and resources.
The Surgical Technician must be well-versed in the operation of essential equipment and possess a solid understanding of cardiac and vascular anatomy, hemodynamics, sterile techniques, and operating room protocols. Key responsibilities include:
- Proper patient setup and preparation.
- Scrubbing, circulating, and maintaining sterile techniques.
- Recording and troubleshooting clinical equipment as necessary.
- Demonstrating proficiency in all procedures performed within the cardiovascular space.
The Surgical Technician is expected to establish and maintain professional relationships with colleagues and medical staff, demonstrating competence in related functions.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- An Associate's degree in Surgical Technology or completion of a Surgical Technician Certification program is required.
- A minimum of one year of scrubbing experience is preferred, with acute care experience being advantageous.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Proficient in reading and writing Basic English for transcribing physician orders.
- Knowledge of body substance isolation protocols.
- Strong listening and empathy skills to address patient and family needs.
- Familiarity with basic anesthesia principles and video equipment setup/troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated organizational skills and effective communication abilities.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION:
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist through recognized boards is preferred.
- BLS and ACLS certifications from accredited organizations are required.
