The Material Handler - Entry is a critical role within the BlueScope organization, responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient handling and staging of materials for production at the entry end of the paint line.
Key Responsibilities- Material Handling: Safely operate an overhead crane to pull and stage coils at the Entry End staging area, adhering to schedules and special instructions.
- Coil Management: Locate and relocate coils for safe storage and processing, ensuring that all coils have stock numbers on both sides before storing.
- Assistance and Support: Assist the Entry End Operator in unwrapping material for processing, restacking and staging coil areas, and removing trash and scrap metal to the proper containers.
- Inventory Management: Participate in inventories of raw storage areas, scan raw pile storage areas on a weekly basis, and maintain storage areas per current storage specifications.
- Team Collaboration: Communicate daily with internal personnel from Production and Quality Control to resolve problems and achieve company goals.
- Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent (GED).
- Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend documents, including safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and simple correspondence.
- Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts, including fractions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and densities.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to perform work instructions and solve problems involving multiple variables.
The incumbent is required to drive a forklift, operate an overhead crane, and use various power tools. The incumbent should also be capable of recognizing metal defects. PC skills are preferable.
