Agricultural Technician

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Agricultural Technician to join our team at the Department of Food & Agriculture. As an Agricultural Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting our entomological and plant pest control efforts.

• Conduct visual surveys, eradication, and detection/delimitation trapping to identify and control plant pests.
• Collect, process, and package suspect plant and insect samples for further analysis.
• Operate State or rental vehicles to perform field activities and transport equipment.
• Use Global Positioning System (GPS) technology to record geographic locations and coordinates.
• Complete Pest Damage Records and daily reports of work completed.
• Screen wet and dry traps for target pests and examine trap contents for preliminary identifications.
• Interact with the public in a professional manner and provide information on pest management practices.

The duties of this position are conducted indoors and outdoors, and the incumbent may be exposed to inclement weather and temperature extremes. The work site is a multi-leveled area with black top and raised decking, and the incumbent will be required to use various insect/plant collection tools and equipment.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of entomology and plant pest control principles, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills. You will also need to be able to work independently and as part of a team, and be able to lift and carry equipment and samples as needed.
