Chair, Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER)
Job Summary:The Chair of the Department of Health, Physical Education and Recreation is responsible for the overall leadership and management of the department, including undergraduate and graduate degree programs, administration, budgets, and personnel. The incumbent will provide strategic direction, develop and implement effective student recruitment and retention strategies, and foster productive professional relationships to achieve the department's goals and objectives.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide leadership in developing and enhancing undergraduate and graduate instructional programs in concert with program faculty.
- Develop and monitor course scheduling and faculty teaching assignments to optimize faculty time and ensure student graduation within the allotted time frame.
- Work with faculty to upgrade courses and curricula to ensure graduating students are nationally and globally competitive.
- Develop and implement effective student recruitment and retention strategies in collaboration with faculty and staff.
- Teach at least one course per semester in the field of expertise.
- Lead departmental planning, management, and evaluation activities, including institutional effectiveness for accreditation.
A Doctor of Philosophy in an HPER discipline or related field, with five years of teaching experience at the college or university level, and experience planning, coordinating, implementing, and evaluating teaching and research HPER-related programs at the university level.
Work Environment:The Chair will work in a fast-paced academic environment, with occasional travel and extended work hours.
