Job Summary:

La-Z-Boy Incorporated is seeking a skilled Structural Designer II to join our new style design team. As a key member of this team, you will be responsible for creating all frame and structural requirements for new products in the residential division. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our designs, which will have a significant impact on our brand promise and profit margin.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the identification of specific frame and structural requirements and establish the overall design direction using guidelines provided by merchandising or the requesting department.
  • Collaborate with lead Structural Designers in the development and breakdown of frame and structural requirements, researching existing parts and reviewing their ability to be produced using existing manufacturing processes.
  • Using existing frame and structural design software, assist in the creation of all required parts and enter them into the appropriate database.
  • Assist in the creation of a physical prototype to be reviewed against established design criteria, internal R&D design standards, and current manufacturing fabrication and assembly methods.
  • Review the creation of preliminary wood BOM to establish preliminary cost information and participate in the review of this information with the cost department against the established cost target.
  • Follow all required manufacturing documentation for all frame and structural elements, including wood lists, wood and structural prints, panel board prints, polymer prints, and any other required frame and structural information.
  • Adhere to the new style implementation process of any new products created across all residential manufacturing plants and supply centers.
  • Maintain the maintenance of frame and structural standards for the R&D and manufacturing facilities.
Scope and Impact:

The Structural Designer II is a critical position on the new style design team, responsible for creating all residential designs in the four major categories of rocker recliners, motion sofas, occasional units, and stationary sofas. Your work will have a significant impact on La-Z-Boy's ability to deliver on our brand promise and affect our overall profit margin.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED with 2-4 years of work experience or equivalent.
  • CAD Certification.
  • Frame assembly skills.
  • Overall furniture manufacturing process knowledge.
  • SolidWorks knowledge.
  • Ability to interpret part prints.
  • Up to 10% travel required.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Associates Degree, vocational or technical school degree with AutoCAD or CADD related field of study.
Work Environment:

Often sits, repeated hand motion, talking, standing, balancing. Seldom will you be bending, stooping, climbing stairs or ladders, kneeling, squatting reaching overhear or pulling and pushing. May be in proximity to moving parts, noise, fumes, odors, gasses, subject to oils and or poor ventilation. Often operates in a professional office environment using standard office equipment.
