Job Overview
As a vital member of the surgical team, the Surgical Services Technician plays a crucial role in the care and preparation of patients undergoing surgical procedures. This position requires maintaining a sterile environment and supporting the surgical team effectively.

Key Responsibilities
  • Anticipates and provides necessary instruments to surgeons during operations.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in managing multiple tasks simultaneously during surgical procedures.
  • Aids in the safe transportation of patients to and from the operating room.
  • Prepares surgical tables, instruments, and supplies while adhering to aseptic techniques.
  • Assists in the preparation and draping of patients and surgical sites as required.
  • Participates in preoperative counts of instruments, sponges, and sharps to ensure accuracy.
  • Aids in positioning patients and applying dressings or casts as needed.
  • Processes and packages surgical instruments and supplies for decontamination and sterilization.
  • Ensures cleanliness of surgical carts and rooms immediately after procedures.
  • Restocks linens and supplies in operating rooms and storage areas.
  • Engages in performance improvement and educational initiatives.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned or necessary.
  • Adheres to compliance policies and regulations relevant to the position.
  • Maintains a safe working environment by following safety protocols and procedures.
  • Upholds the confidentiality of all patient and organizational information.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty satisfactorily. The following qualifications are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Preferred completion of a certificate program from a college or technical school.

Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret safety regulations, operating instructions, and procedural manuals. Capable of writing routine reports and communicating effectively with patients, families, and staff.

Position Requirements
  • Completion of an accredited Operating Room Technician program or relevant on-the-job training.
  • BCLS certification required within three months of employment.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 21 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
