Journeyman Electrician Job Description

Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Journeyman Electrician to join our team at Piping Technology & Products. As a Journeyman Electrician, you will be responsible for the installation and repair of electrical systems, ensuring they function safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and monitor electrical equipment, making adjustments or replacements as needed.
  • Repair, install, replace, and test electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances using appropriate tools and testing instruments.
  • Lead, guide, and/or train other electricians in applicable procedures and techniques.
  • Repair and maintain motor control centers and programmable logic controls (1000 volt and below).
  • Perform periodic inspections for new electrical services (120v, 240v, and 480v three-phase), including wiring, conduit, panels, breakers, contractors, relays, timers, and controls.
  • Act quickly when a breakdown occurs, estimating the duration of a shutdown and communicating with management.
  • Perform electrical maintenance and repair work, including installing/ replacing fixtures, switches, receptacles, and wiring.
  • Plan electrical secondary system additions or modifications.
  • Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies, promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED; at least 2 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
  • Possession of a current Electrical Master License.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of secondary electrical systems, including planning additions or modifications on secondary circuits.
  • Ability to use appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment to repair, install, replace, and test 1000 volt and below electrical circuits, equipment, and appliances.
  • Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to the trade.
  • Ability to diagnose and repair electrical controls, industrial motor control centers, and programmable logic controllers for secondary systems 1000 volt and below.
  • Ability to lead and train.
  • Ability to read commercial electrical blueprints and apply NEC through the full range of commercial and industrial maintenance and construction work.
  • Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
  • Ability to install and maintain motors, welding equipment, lighting fixtures, generators, circuit breakers, and transformers as appropriate to the position.
  • Ability to isolate defects in wiring, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.

Working Conditions and Physical Effort:

  • Work involves almost constant exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, materials, dirt, dust, and/or loud noises.
  • Considerable physical activity, requiring heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Work environment involves exposure to potentially dangerous materials and situations that require following extensive safety precautions and may include the use of protective equipment.
