Required Education and Experience:

(All levels necessitate a combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field)

Entry Level - Civil Engineering Specialist Level 1 ($31.04)
  • No prior work experience is necessary for entry-level positions.
Mid-Level - Civil Engineering Specialist Level 2 ($32.31)
  • A minimum of 6 months to 2 years of engineering or closely related work experience is required.
  • Certifications, licensure, or other credentials include: Proof of passing the Fundamental Engineering Exam (FE).
Top Level - Civil Engineering Specialist Level 3 ($37.36)
  • A minimum of 2 to 4 years of engineering or directly related work experience is required.
  • Certifications, licensure, or other credentials include: Proof of passing the Fundamental Engineering Exam (FE), Engineering Intern Certification (EIT), or being a licensed Professional Engineer.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Develops sufficient engineering knowledge, skill, and judgment in a specific practice area to perform routine engineering tasks effectively. This knowledge should be transferable to other areas at the same level.
  • Possesses a broad understanding of engineering practices, principles, construction methods, processes, procedures, and computer-assisted drafting and design software for moderately complex projects. A solid understanding of federal guidelines and procedures related to road design and construction is also essential.
  • Exhibits effective oral and written communication skills to facilitate interactions with clients, customers, or officials regarding specific assignments or meetings.

  • Driver's records will be verified. Successful candidates will be required to authorize the Department to obtain their permanent driving records. Compliance with state vehicle use regulations and policies is a condition of employment.
