Position Summary:

The Early Childhood Educator is responsible for designing, executing, and overseeing all educational activities within a designated classroom. This role emphasizes fostering parental involvement through regular conferences and meetings. The educator will supervise, schedule, train, and assess the performance of assigned staff and volunteers, ensuring a high standard of leadership within both the classroom and the center. In the absence of the supervisor, the educator will manage the daily operations and upkeep of the center, maintaining program quality.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Develops, organizes, and executes classroom activities and excursions; integrates new educational modules as they become available; formulates teaching strategies based on classroom outcome reports; consistently follows through on planned activities and posts daily plans in the classroom.
  2. Conducts screenings and maintains observational records of children, collaborating with parents to create and implement tailored programs; oversees the planning and execution of classroom activities; ensures that programmatic and agency reports are completed by classroom staff; performs ongoing assessments as required.
  3. Implements a cultural awareness initiative within the center, conducting at least one activity per month.
  4. Assists in the preparation and supervision of healthy meals and snacks; manages food supply purchases; creates an environment where mealtime is both educational and enjoyable.
  5. Guides parents in their roles as classroom volunteers and aids staff and parents in organizing parent-related activities; participates in parent meetings.
  6. Coordinates and participates in home visits.
  7. Responsible for interviewing, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating staff; maintains compliance with performance review systems for direct reports; mediates staff conflicts; provides guidance to employees facing performance challenges; assesses and manages program equipment and supplies.

Qualifications:

Experience and Skills:

  • 2-3 years of experience in teaching young children within a center-based or home daycare program.
  • A minimum of 2 years in a supervisory role.
  • Ability to plan for individual needs and create safe, healthy learning environments.
  • Experience in conducting developmental screenings.

Skills:

  • Exceptional customer service abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and relevant software applications.
  • Effective communication and rapport-building with young children.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Strong multitasking capabilities.
  • Ability to foster trust and security through nurturing relationships.

Educational Background:

  • Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field with at least 36 credits in Early Childhood.
  • Credential or certification in family services or a related field within 18 months of hire.
  • Incumbents with a CDA or Associate's Degree must actively pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field.
  • Familiarity with Head Start Performance Standards.
  • Must possess Ed Tech Certification (II or III).
  • Adoption of an open classroom/hands-on learning philosophy.
  • Working knowledge of Early Childhood Education principles.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Additional Requirements:

  • Flexibility in scheduling.
  • Successful completion of required background checks.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and proof of insurance.
