We are seeking a highly skilled Gas Engineer to join our team at Spire. As a Gas Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing and estimating construction projects for the replacement of existing natural gas facilities and the construction of new natural gas facilities.
Key Responsibilities- Design and estimate construction projects for gas facilities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Coordinate designs with GIS Analysts, Environmental Engineering, System Planning, Right of Way, Pipeline Safety and Compliance, Field Operations, and outside companies.
- Record and track improvement plans from preliminary to final stage through construction.
- Assist in the daily coordination, assignment of work, and oversight of GIS Analyst and Construction Engineers.
- Work on special projects, including bridge crossings, railroad crossings, and design non-normal services.
- Specify and procure non-stock material required for gas main and service work.
- Review design and cost estimates for gas main and service work, ensuring compliance with company standards and regulations.
- Handle calls and correspondence regarding job status and project updates.
- Prepare necessary paperwork related to company procedures for gas main and service work.
- Attend utility meetings and pre-construction meetings to negotiate with representatives from engineering firms and municipalities.
- Attend site meetings to resolve specific issues or conflicts with company facilities and proposed improvements.
- Schedule and prioritize projects for construction or higher priority due to company requirements.
- Ensure effective utilization of company's Geographical Information System (GIS) and asset management system to manage capital construction design work.
- Ensure compliance with company standards and applicable State and Federal codes and regulations for all design work.
- Ensure all work is performed in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner to maximize system integrity, reliability, and value to customers.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an ABET-accredited school required.
- Engineering in Training certificate preferred.
- Minimum 0-2 years' engineering experience in natural gas or similar industries.
- Knowledge of project management techniques and proven ability to lead across functional teams.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability to deal effectively with internal peers, staff of acquired entities, and third-party service providers.
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and use of Spire's systems such as Maximo, OBIEE, Oracle, Sharepoint, and Asana.
Work is normally performed in a shared, open-office environment. Hybrid in-office/remote work schedule. Work hours are typically 7:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. An additional 20 hours may be required per month to complete necessary work. Overnight travel is required to visit various work locations and attend business functions. Up to 20% travel required.
