Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Inspector II to join our team at the City of Reno. As a Fire Inspector II, you will be responsible for enforcing Federal, State, and local codes and regulations related to fire safety and prevention.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect commercial and residential buildings and properties to identify and report fire hazards and code violations.
  • Respond to complaints regarding fire code violations and fire hazards, and issue notices of violation and misdemeanor citations as necessary.
  • Review and approve construction plans for fire and life safety code compliance.
  • Conduct inspections of fire safety systems during various phases of construction.
  • Advise, educate, and instruct the general public in proper fire safety methods and practices.
  • Investigate fires and complete necessary computer data entry to document completed inspections.
Requirements
  • Twenty four months experience as a Fire Inspector I with the Reno Fire Department, or three years of increasing responsible experience performing fire code related inspections duties with a recognized fire department.
  • Certification as a Fire Inspector I, Fire Inspector II and Plans Examiner from a nationally recognized certification board.
  • Possession of a valid driver's license.
Working Environment

The Fire Inspector II will work in a fast-paced environment, traveling from site to site, and working in field, construction site and office environments. The position requires physical agility, including bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs and ladders, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time.
