Job SummaryWe are seeking a Staff Attorney to provide expert legal services to unaccompanied children in need of legal representation. The successful candidate will provide direct representation to clients, as well as pro bono facilitation, including consultation, training, and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys.
Key Responsibilities- Provide direct legal representation to unaccompanied children, including conducting client interviews, appearing in court, and drafting and filing court pleadings.
- Provide pro bono facilitation, including consultation, training, and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who have accepted KIND cases.
- Supervise interns and/or other non-attorney staff as needed, including onboarding, skills training, and performance evaluations.
- Build relationships between KIND and the pro bono community, including placing cases with pro bono attorneys and developing pro bono training resources.
- Contribute to overall office functioning, including participating in field office and KIND-wide calls and meetings, and assisting with office events.
- J.D. and admission to the local state bar (or ability to sit for the bar exam within 6 months and be admitted within one year of employment).
- Fluency in English and Spanish (or participation in and completion of the Spanish immersion program).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience practicing immigration law, including representation of clients in humanitarian immigration claims.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children, and/or working with vulnerable populations.
