Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Environmental Planner III to join our team. As a key member of our environmental planning group, you will be responsible for assisting with the preparation of NEPA documentation for transportation and infrastructure projects. This will involve conducting desktop research, field work, creating maps in ESRI ArcMap, and writing technical reports.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist with and/or prepare environmental permits, NEPA documentation, biological assessments, and other environmental compliance documentation.
  • Conduct literature research and data collection for environmental investigation and documentation.
  • Perform field work associated with the collection of natural resource and other data.
  • Research federal, state, and local environmental quality and protection regulations.
  • Write various sections of environmental documents and review and edit other sections prepared by technical specialists.
  • Assist with or lead complex assignments and make independent decisions on problems and methods.
  • Assist more senior scientists on projects.
  • Take initiative, resolve problems, and identify improved procedures to assure client needs are met effectively.

Qualifications:

  • The ability to conduct research of federal, state, and local regulations and policies.
  • Excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading.
  • Must be flexible to changes in work assignments on short notice and/or daily as changes occur in project needs.
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Proficient with ArcMap or ARC GIS.
  • Position will work in both a field and office setting.
  • Willingness to embrace new technology and processes, including learning other software programs.
  • Exhibits initiative, responsibility, flexibility, and leadership.
  • Good time management skills with the ability to handle complex deadline-driven workloads.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team successfully.

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Geography, Range Management, or other related field required.

Experience:

5-10 years of related experience required.

Travel Expectations:

Must be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, which usually would consist of visiting other office locations, project sites, attending seminars or business meetings. Minimum travel is 10% of the time depending on projects. Certain positions will require more travel. Travel expectations will be communicated through the employee-owner's manager, and for newly open positions, travel expectations will be reflected in the job posting announcement. Driver's license with clean driving record required.
