Under the direction of the manager and the in-charge technologist, the Computed Tomography Technologist is expected to perform a variety of procedures applying ionizing radiation. Performance of specific tasks is indicated below for CT purposes according to the department policy.
Positive contribution to interpersonal relationships concerning all parties is according to Prisma Health policy.
Key Responsibilities- Perform CT Scans: As directed by the Manager, performs CT scans and communicates with the physician and other work-related personnel appropriately.
- Identify Patients and Procedures: Identifies patients and procedures, communicates with nursing or physician concerning patient, informs nursing of patients that need IV sedation or biopsies, and fills out CT questionnaire and female questionnaire on all patients between the ages of 12-55 years old.
- Position Patients Accurately: Positions patients accurately for all CT procedures, transfers and positions correctly for anatomy to be demonstrated for best visibility.
- Know Scanning Protocols: Knows scanning protocols in depth, must be able to perform procedures correctly using protocol book for reference, and studies must be done in a timely manner and taken to the radiologist for interpretation as soon as possible after completion of exam.
- Obtain Supplies and Prepare Room: Obtains appropriate supplies and prepares room for patient, keeps room cleaned and stocked at all times, and adequate supplies and linens must always be available.
- Use Proper Technique: Uses proper technique when injection IV contrast, ensures IV is working and checked first with an injection of saline, and chooses correct method of injection (hand or injector).
- Respond to Codes and Emergency Situations: Responds to codes and other emergency situations appropriately.
- Explain CT Procedure: Explains CT procedure to patient and/or family member, obtains completed questionnaire and proper history and clinical from patient, floor or physician's office, and informs patients and families of all delays.
- Train Co-Workers and Students: Trains co-workers and students, assists other technologists when not busy in assigned CT room.
- Acquire Requisition and Check for Appropriate Clinical: Acquires requisition and checks for appropriate clinical, charges procedure, supplies and surgical codes when exam is completed, and indicates no-film badge wearing name and fluoro time.
- Operate PACS System: Operates the PACS system appropriately and verifies studies before sending to archive, reports equipment problems to supervisor, in-charge tech, and documents confirmation numbers.
- Communicate with Radiologist: Communicates with radiologist to determine appropriate protocols for each exam, correct protocols are utilized as prescribed by the radiologist, and procedures must be performed as directed by the radiologist.
- Certification Program: Graduate of accredited Radiologic Technology program with ARRT certification in CT.
- ARRT Registered and registered in CT.
- CPR certified.
- SCQRSA License.
