Job Description

The Patient Care Technician, also known as a Nursing Assistant, plays a vital role in providing direct and indirect basic health care to patients ranging in age from 18 years to geriatric.

The responsibilities of this position include:

  • Performing patient care activities delegated and supervised by the professional staff.
  • Assisting with activities of daily living such as baths, oral hygiene, and oral feedings to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Ensuring patient mobility is performed (i.e. turning, lifting, moving) using appropriate safety measures to prevent patient and self injury.
  • Offering, administering, and recording patient meals and nourishment in a timely manner.
  • Assisting Nursing staff with admission, discharge, transfer, and transport of patients.
  • Responding effectively in emergencies and assisting in prevention of patient injury.
  • Initiating CPR when necessary.
  • Utilizing side rails and restraints to prevent patient injury.
  • Reporting to professional staff patients at increased risk for injury.
  • Collecting lab specimens, labeling them appropriately, and delivering them to the lab in a timely manner using appropriate safety measures.
  • Communicating test results to professional staff in a timely manner.

This role requires strong organizational skills, a working knowledge of computer and software applications used in job functions, and the ability to project a professional image.
