Position Overview:
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance operations within the branch, ensuring efficiency and safety in all processes. This role involves supervising and coordinating the activities of maintenance personnel engaged in the servicing and repair of equipment and vehicles, while also providing hands-on support to ensure daily tasks are completed effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise all maintenance department staff, planning and directing their work effectively.
- Perform necessary repairs on vehicles and equipment, ensuring follow-up on all maintenance activities.
- Develop and implement a preventative maintenance strategy to guarantee equipment remains safe and operational, including scheduling and monitoring maintenance tasks.
- Maintain comprehensive records of vehicle inspections, maintenance, and safety in compliance with regulatory requirements and company policies.
- Ensure compliance with GFL Environmental safety standards and oversee the efficient operation of the Safety Lane.
- Collaborate with Operations Management to coordinate equipment inspections and repairs.
- Organize and lead safety meetings, documenting attendance and topics discussed to promote a culture of safety.
- Manage inventory of supplies and parts, authorizing purchases as necessary.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of the shop facility and surrounding grounds.
- Track fuel usage and compile monthly reports for management review.
- Review work orders and maintenance requests on a daily basis.
- Conduct evaluations of shop personnel, providing training and disciplinary actions as needed.
- Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or GED is required.
- Completion of DOT certification for air brake inspection and annual vehicle inspections.
- Possession of a Class B Certified Driver's License (CDL) within six months of hire.
- Prior supervisory experience in a maintenance or shop environment is preferred.
- A full set of hand tools is required.
- Knowledge of welding, compactor repair, and vehicle inspections is essential.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and maintenance management software.
- Ability to interpret safety regulations and procedural documents.
- Strong mathematical skills for budgeting and inventory management.
- Effective problem-solving and reasoning abilities.
Physical and Mental Demands:
- Ability to perform physical tasks including lifting and moving items up to 100 pounds.
- Visual acuity for close and distance vision tasks.
Working Conditions:
- Exposure to moderate to loud noise levels and varying weather conditions.
- Occasional work in high or precarious locations.
