The Program Generalist at Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Milwaukee is responsible for developing and implementing education programs at Camp within Boys & Girls Club locations and within the community. This AmeriCorps position offers a fixed-amount living allowance and education award, which vary based on the term of service.
Responsibilities:- Care and Supervision of Children: Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times.
- Provide an atmosphere for growth and learning: Foster a positive environment that aligns with the mission and vision of the Boys and Girls Club and Camp Whitcomb/Mason.
- Use approved discipline techniques: Utilize training-approved methods to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
- Allow camper participation: Encourage campers to participate in all scheduled activities and provide opportunities for leadership within the cabin.
- Medical emergencies: Seek immediate help for any sick or injured camper or staff member.
- Supervision ratios: Maintain a 1:8 ratio of children to adults at all times, with a minimum of two adults with every group of children.
- Positive role modeling: Act as a positive influence while at the pool, waterfront, or archery range, or other high-risk program areas.
- Consistent rules and guidelines: Establish and enforce clear rules and guidelines in your program area.
- Developmental programming: Create programs that promote the mission and vision of the Boys and Girls Clubs, aligned with the assigned program area.
- Cleanliness and maintenance: Ensure your area of responsibility is clean, free of food, and orderly, and report any maintenance needs.
- Administrative tasks: Perform tasks such as typing programs, organizing pictures, filing forms, and other office duties.
- Program outcomes: Develop and maintain quality programs that meet the needs of the campers.
- Environmental/Outdoor Education: Coordinate and promote participation in Environmental/Outdoor Education and summer programs within the Clubs.
- Climate and atmosphere: Create a positive and engaging environment that encourages youth to feel safe, happy, and have fun.
- High School Diploma required; some college or BS degree in an environmental or education field preferred.
- Certified or willing to be certified in AHA or Red Cross CPR PRO/AED/O2 and First Aid.
- Certified or able to be certified in YMCA or ARC Lifeguard Certification, Ropes & Challenge course facilitator.
- 1 year of full-time experience working with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- 17 years of age or older.
